Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera - Silver (7.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom) 2.5'' LCD

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera - Silver (7.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom) 2.5 inch LCD
Staying true to Sony's tradition of style and performance, the Cyber-shot DSC-W80 digital camera has a number of great features in a compact metal case. The Cyber-shot DSC-W80 comes with a high-quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, a 7 million-pixel Super HAD CCD sensor and a Super Steady Shot stabiliser, enabling you to take magnificent photos that are rich in colour and packed with details. Meanwhile, its high sensitivity (of up to 3200 ISO) reduces the effects of blur when taking photos in low lighting conditions without your needing to use the built-in flash, and its BIONZ processor contributes to increasing the camera's speed by optimising the processing time of images. Despite its compact size, the Cyber-shot DSC-W80 still manages to include both an optical viewfinder and a 2.5" LCD screen, allowing you to choose your favourite shooting mode. The built-in face recognition mode maximises focusing so you can highlight the faces of the people you?re taking photos of, and the available scene modes let you quickly adjust the camera to suit your needs. The built-in retouch button is really handy for last-minute touches on your photos and the Full HD output lets you enjoy your photos on a high-definition television (HD cable not included). To sum up, the Cyber-shot DSC-W80 has all the essential elements for those of you who like to keep up with digital technology and style!

Customer Reviews for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera - Silver (7.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom) 2.5'' LCD
This camera is good, but SONY service/repair is bad posted on 2008-11-01
Hi! I wouldn't even rate this camera as its manufacturer, sony is really bad in service/repair.
I got this camrea from US as gift from my brother (who is in USA# and in 4 months its Lense CCD image device went bad. All it means that its a camrea which can not take any picture and can only review pictures from memory. I checked with Sony service center at local place, they want to charge 40 pound to send to Sony Repairs + what ever the cost of CCD image replacement. Means it may be something like 80 pounds for repair.
I just googled to see how many people are facing same problem, found that in last three months #June 2008 to sept 2008) almost 10 others have same problem with this camera. CCD went defective.
Please do not buy this camera unless you get a full lifelong free warranty from Sony.

Excellent camera for daily use posted on 2008-04-11
I have used Sony cybershot previously. Baugth W80 again to continue my good experience with sony. the camera is very easy to use and have many features if you want to play around.

double blurr removal technology makes sure tha tyour pictures are sharp and clear.

For night time pictures use ISO feature and a camera stand: you'll get SLR level results.
Camera fits in pocket, Battery life is ok, you should carry extra battery when willing to take many shots. Probably this is issue with all digital cameras.

Fantastic freebie! posted on 2008-04-03
I won this camera in a random competition, and have been extremely pleased with it! I normally always forget what the symbols for different settings mean, but the menu that pops up when you spin the button is perfect! It says the name and the description! I am really confused as to whether to sell or keep it, my only criticism (other than no memory card supplied with it), is the quality when the object is close-up; I have a Nokia N95, with the same Carl Zeiss Tessar camera, and my phone beats it on this one point.

"Shooting some animals" posted on 2008-02-09
Firstly I chose this model because I wanted a viewfinder on my camera and secondly because I wanted to be able to take widescreen photos to 'fit' my computer screen otherwise I would probably have kept what I already was using, Sony DSC-72. Anyone familiar with Whipsnade will know you can walk miles and the animals will nearly always be on the opposite side of the paddock, but I was lucky when I went to test out the camera - the lions were sunbathing by the viewing screen and focus and colours were amazingly good with it set on auto, detail was excellent especially as I had to shoot through the glass. Being that close to a lion family was somewhat awesome. The camera focused well through the massive bars of the elephant paddock and picked out the new baby trying to hide under its Mother better than I had expected. All sorts of animals and birds "were shot" that day and almost all photos were up to a reasonable standard, for an OAP amateur that is

What I wasn't so pleased with was when trying out the movie clips I had made, I couldn't find a way of deleting a wobbly bit at the beginning of one. Trimming seems to only be available for still photos. I was also surprised to find a flock of flamingoes walking towards me kept going out of focus. Maybe they were so brilliant in the sunshine it affected the monitoring. My previous camera allowed a divide and delete option, no hunting through the camera manuals for this one, paper or on screen even mentioned the subject that I could see. In the end I managed to find an editing prog. on my laptop - DVgate where I could trim and convert and send back to add to my DVcamera tape which I had also taken to write the whole lot to disc.

The controls on the camera are rather close together and move very easily, making double checking before you shoot that you haven't slipped the mode dial round when taking the camera out of your pocket a good idea. The screen is very clear and of a reasonable size if you want to take macro. I have bought a 4GB MS pro duo to allow plenty of movie recording if the occasion demands. Nice little camera, lightweight and easily slides in your pocket and the additional case which I bought from Amazon along with the MS pro duo has a belt loop which undoes to become a carrying handle if you so wish. Rated at 4 star because I feel contrary to my expections there are less options on it than my previous camera, the photos are more than satisfactory.
